Do you accept credit cards? Are you ready for the payments industry transition?

Do you accept credit cards? Are you ready for the payments industry transition? If not, you may face a huge liability  after October 1st and beyond.

Retailers’ top priority in 2015 is payment security:

EMV-NFC It's Coming!!
While real-time retail and unified commerce were priorities last year, payment security has jumped to the forefront in 2015 as the number one priority for retailers. Surprised? you shouldn't be not after last year’s data breaches at some of the top retailers plus the looming October 2015 deadline for credit card liability shift associated with EMV (Europay, MasterCard and Visa) compliance.

  • 650% more retailers will support EMV by October 2015
  • 151% increase in the use of end-to-end encryption by the end of 2016
By Oct. 1st, if a business doesn’t accept  credit card's with an EMV chip, and the transaction is fraudulent, the merchant will be liable for all and any costs. So merchants need to upgrade their point of sale systems.  They need to get educated. They need to learn about EMV.

What exactly is EMV?
EMV stands for Europay, MasterCard and Visa, a global standard for inter-operation of integrated circuit cards (IC cards or "chip cards") and IC card capable point of sale (POS) terminals and automated teller machines (ATMs), for authenticating credit and debit card transactions.

EMV cards with chips are nothing new – they’ve been used in Europe and other parts of the world for years. It’s an industry standard that’s used to fight fraud. EMV works. For example, lost and stolen card fraud fell by 58% during the five years after UK retailers adopted the technology. In Canada, a national rollout in 2008 also had a dramatic impact on fraud.

EMV compliant equipment is now available
You will lose customers if you’re not using an EMV compliant system. Why? Because why would I want to shop at your store and subject myself to the potential headaches and hardships of a fraudulent transaction when I can go to your competitor and shop knowing that my private information is much, much more secure? This is not just a cost of doing business. This is an investment in customer service.
